Body. Object. Space.
Movement consciousness and creation for Jugglers.
In this playful workshop Benjamin shares his 35 years experience of research, creation and teaching at the intersection of juggling and contemporary dance.
Influenced by somatic practices and his researches into the Bauhaus, post-modernism, and contemporary art and philosophy, Benjamin has developed a system of teaching the underlying principles of physical dialogue between humans, objects and the space between and around them. Students learn how an object can affect their use of their own weight, their centre and the dynamics of spatial intention to create new juggling vocabularies and choreographies rooted in sensitive physical listening. Improvisational and choreographic tools and principles are shared to help the students continue to integrate the material from the workshop into their own future work.
Ben’s teaching has been a huge influence on my juggling. What I learned from from him about shifting my weight to motivate a throw or movement has helped me in all the juggling I’ve made since then!
